After their hugely successful national Summer tour of Edward II Jadis Shadows Productions presents two exciting, specially commissioned, pieces of dramatic writing to be presented as a single touring production as part of their upcoming Autumn season. Both historically based plays will be performed in fully costumed splendour; being played together on the same contrasting bill.

‘The Queens Heads’

A tale of two of Henry VIII’s most infamous and unfortunate wives.

Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard; both Queens (although luckily not at the same time) and cousins, both were pronounced the love of their monarch’s life and both were beheaded by their lord and master on charges of adultery…

One was sharp and savvy, the other interested only in dancing and gowns.

One played the King at his own game of politics; the other was led by others as she frolicked with her spaniels.

One was famed for great wit and sophistication while the other relied solely on her girlish charms and overt sexuality.

One was guilty of the grievous sexual charges laid against her while the other, charged with infamy, incest and witchcraft, was blameless.

Yet both ended headless upon the Tower’s scaffold.

Tudor history brought to life in vivid intimacy breathing new life into two quite remarkable icons of British history.

‘Affirmations of the Maimed Debauchee’

Jadis Shadows Productions hosts an audience with the infamous courtier, poet, and ‘decadent extreme’ John Wilmot 2nd Earl of Rochester.

The time is 17th Century Restoration London, a period of excess and ostentatious display, and Wilmot is willing to share a slice of his world; the wine, the whores, the actresses, the willing young men… the syphilis.

As colourful images of his past flood his memory, vivid characters resurrect to play out pivotal moments of his debauched and licentious life. The struggling actress Elizabeth Barry, the ‘Merry Monarch’ Charles II, his wild plaything Billy Downs, numerous whores of both sexes… and even his long suffering wife… all make an appearance upon a crimson stage of his own creation.

Yet below the surface lies a sensitive soul of contradictions; a man unafraid to poke fun at the society within which he lives, to taunt his King and dryly mock himself and his excesses- even as he indulges.

A fast paced romp through the back alleys and palaces of Charles II’s England; trimmed with crudity and wit.

Not recommend for those of a sensitive disposition!
