Itihaas
Itihaas restaurant in Birmingham is one stunning eaterie. This beautiful restaurant —the name means ‘history’ -- is the £2 million brainchild of businessman Raj Rana and it’s been raking in awards since it opened its doors. The décor is contemporary meets traditional with two dining rooms honouring colonial and maharaja eras – there are slate finished walls, original paintings, carved stone elephants, Jali marble window frames like those found in Mogul palaces and elegant black sari-clad hostesses. Chef Amardeep Saka offers intriguing dishes influenced by North India, Mumbai, Chinese fusion and Kenya. The cuisine and service are royal, yet the ambience is relaxed and informal – a history-making combination in anyone’s book.

Hungry Brummies looking for a cosy-chic space for stylish cocktail parties and dinner parties need look no further than Jojolapa on Newhall Street. This Nepalese restaurant has a sleek interior decorated with dark wood, a black and red colour scheme, intricately carved Buddhas and an abundance of fresh flowers. Jojolapa – which means 'welcome' in Nepalese – has a family-run feel and the attentive staff and killer menu will have you coming back for more. Kinnaree Thai Restaurant
Kinnaree makes the most of its prime spot in Birmingham’s Holiday Wharf building, the long glass, ground floor frontage framing the canalside views rather beautifully. A lot of care has clearly gone into decorating the large, peaceful dining space, at the centre of which is an elegant Thai longboat. All hundred+ ‘home-cooking’-style dishes are served in generous portions on ornate gold-effect bowl by considerate, attractively-dressed Thai staff. Bestsellers include chicken satay, and spare ribs, grilled then steamed until tender.

La CC Café Restaurant & Bar
For a fun night out with friends and some great Spanish fare, we highly recommend La CC Café and Restaurant on Stoney Lane in Yardley. Newly opened, this bright and atmospheric venue is a family-run affair, and the friendly environment and classic décor provide a cosy escape from the hustle and bustle. The dining room at La CC has polished wooden floors and candlelit tables, and the bar is a great spot to enjoy Spanish wines and cocktails with friends. The menu always includes daily specials, but classic dishes include the Spanish stew made with chorizo and black Spanish pudding; the king prawns cooked in garlic butter; and the delicious Valencian paella with chicken, chorizo and seafood.
