Mint Indian & Bangladeshi Cuisine Bringing the best of Indian culture and cuisine to the heart of Birmingham, Mint is a stylish but relaxed restaurant that has won the hearts of local curry connoisseurs. Enviably located just ten minutes from the NEC Exhibition Centre, Mint is perfect for business lunches, romantic dinners and relaxed family gatherings. The minimalist and contemporary venue is divided into a spacious lobby area, a ground floor dining room and a stunning mezzanine level. Familiar favourites like lamb rogan josh and chicken korma are done very well here, but we recommend trying one of their signature dishes like lamb shank with spiced pumpkin or the delicious paneer tikka bhuna – ideal for vegetarian diners. Monsoon Restaurant Monsoon is a modern, spicy Indian eatery with a soothing décor and upmarket crowd. We love the simple dining room with its Spanish tiled floors, whitewashed walls and giant abstract canvases. Monsoon has a nice bar for pre/post dinner drinks – and is popular for animated nights out with friends. The menu is superb – we recommend the South Indian mussels cooked in curry sauce sprinkled with coriander and lime; the red mullet marinated in red chilli and aubergine sauce; and Monsoon's signature melt-in-your-mouth lamb shank served with pilau rice and fresh coriander. The wine list is excellent and reasonably priced, with up to 8 wines available by the glass. Cuisine: Indian Location: 75 May Lane, Kings Norton, Hollywood, B47 5PA [Map] |

Pad Thai OK, so the name's hardly original but there's nothing else quite like Pad Thai in Birmingham. Step downstairs by the Cathay at Holloway Head and you enter a den of unforgettable fun. Here you can eat, drink and sing all in one stylish space, inspired by traditional Thai homes. At 6pm, the doors open and folk from across the West Midlands sit down (typically) for a green curry or pad thai, though there are over 140 dishes. Come 10:30pm, waitresses hand out mics, the big screen flickers into life and Pad Thai transforms into a karaoke lounge where Purple Rain, New York, New York and co. are crooned well into the early hours. Brilliant. Cuisine: Thai Location: Basement, 86 Holloway Head, Birmingham, B1 1NB [Map] |

Pasta Di Piazza Located in Birmingham's bustling St Paul's Square on Brook Street, close to the vibrant jewellery quarter, Pasta di Piazza is a lively Italian with a feel-good family-run vibe. We love the chatty atmosphere and authentic touches here such as the exposed brick walls and colourful canvases, and the crowd here ranges from businessmen and tourists to members of the local Italian community who adore the restaurant's hearty-sized portions of homecooked pasta and pizza. We love Pasta di Piazza's menu – don't miss the avocado al forno in a tomato sauce baked with cream and mozzarella; the penne arrabbiata e funghi with fresh chilli; and the capricciosa thin-crust pizza with egg, ham, artichokes, capers and olives.
